As a creative soul, I take my path in photography very seriously. I love what I do, I love working with people, and I love expressing myself through the beauty of portraits. I’ve often been asked, “why photography?” In my personal career, I’ve worn a lot of design hats. I’ve worked in many different industries as a designer. However, at the end of the day, photography has always filled my heart with a joy that no other field has come close to fulfilling. Letting my own imagination run wild and capturing the simple beauty in everyday life is something that brings me pure joy.
At the beginning of the year I started to plan for the craziness that is senior portrait season. It’s obvious, I love working with my graduating seniors. Don’t get me wrong, every aspect of photography excites me and working with families and small children is awesome. Seeing families grow and chasing down giggly toddlers is part of the reason I entered this field. However, my seniors keep me on my toes. My seniors push me to be more creative, step outside my comfort zone, and are willing to be daring when it comes to the craziness that unfolds in my mind.
This year I wanted to venture into something new with my seniors. If you’ve been following the blog and my facebook page, you’re familiar with my amazing senior representative team, The Candid Crew. These ladies were an excuse for me to do some over the top sessions and to expand my creativity in ways I couldn’t do with just any client that walked through the door. The following portrait project is entitled, “This is Me”.
I approached each girl and I asked them to give me something that defines them or has helped to create the young women that they’ve become. This could be an activity, this could be a personality trait, or even an obstacle they’ve overcome. I believe now, more than ever, empowering young men and woman to celebrate their differences and what makes them truly unique is especially important. Working with this generation in a social media saturated environment has opened my eyes to how easily and harshly these young men and women are judged by their appearance, their personality, and what makes them individuals. I wanted to celebrate what makes each of my seniors different. What lights their heart on fire and drives them to be the “best me” they can be every single day.
For all my current and future senior clients, BRING ME YOUR BEST YOU. Let’s take what makes you unique, what makes you tick, and what sets you apart from the crowd and celebrate those differences. You are amazing. You are strong. You are the change for a better tomorrow.
Make sure to check out the 4 future blog posts to learn about each of these amazing young women and what makes them unique.
