Each year with my Senior Rep team I pull ideas from my "Photography Bucket" list that I have wanted to try to design, shoot, and add to my portfolio. One of my tag lines for my senior portrait experience has been SENIOR PORTRAITS THAT ROCK. And, if you have had a session with me, I treat my seniors like ROCKSTARS. This is a crazy special time in their life and they deserve to be celebrated and dare I say spoiled. So, I of course took that inspiration and ran with it to create my very own rock band.
I styled the girls by taking inspiration from the late 70s and early 80's rock groups. Coincidentally enough old rock tees, suede, fringe, and feathers are all coming back in style. I made a killing using clothing from Forever 21 for most of the outfits. I've also started a "senior closet" at the studio with some over the top pieces that can add a little edge or interest to my seniors wardrobe during their sessions. (Don't be afraid to ask to see some of the unique and awesome pieces that we have stocked).
With each girl, now knowing their personality, I created a "character" for them to portray for the shoot. We had our lead singer (Miss Sophie), backup vocals and guitar (Miss Cora), Bass Guitar (Miss Kristen), Tamborine and vocalist (Miss Mickenzie), and drums (Miss Kristine). Styling we pulled from a lot of the bands of that such as Aerosmith, ACDC, Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols and Joan Jett, etc... I couldn't have done this without my AMAZING hair and makeup stylists. Jolleen Peart, thank you for stepping up and taking on some of these crazy ideas. Miss Dianna, you ALWAYS blow me away with your makeup talent. And a shout out to Miss Cora's mama, Shelley, for pitching in with hair!
Our location was absolutely PERFECT. Council Hill Station in Scales Mound is like a step back in time. If you haven't visited this place for spirits and live music, you need too! They are throwing a Woodstock celebration in August. Go check it out. Huge thanks to Jamie to helping make this all a reality with his amazing property and the use of the instruments! And lastly, another big thanks to Miss Shelby Cole for the use of her VW Bus. It so fit my vision and it made the entire shoot that much better. You and your family are just so dang sweet.
4 of my senior rep ladies will soon be completing their last session with me. Their very personal This Is Me sessions. Stayed tuned for more craziness and beautiful portraits.
Class of 2020 my calendar is filling up and dates are becoming limited. Book your session today for a senior portrait experience that rocks!
