Have you ever had someone tell you that you look like a celebrity? I met this gorgeous young girl over the summer. She'd come in for her design consult for her senior portrait experience and I just couldn't put my finger on it. She looked like someone. It was driving me a little crazy. In fact, I was driving down the road (going to pick up a new piece of furniture for the studio, figures) and it hit me. This girl looks like a young Katie Holmes! Think Dawnson's Creek and boom, that's Julia!
Let's back away from my craziness for a moment and talk about this beautiful young lady. Julia described her session as wanting a touch of vintage. She also wanted sunflower pictures. Her family had planted a little patch on their farm. Oh, and she casually mentioned they had a nice view from the top of their hill (we'll get to that in a moment). We planned for downtown Galena and then portraits on her family farm. I love all the texture and old charm of the Galena area and I knew it would be a perfect fit for this class of 2019 senior. Unfortunately it seems I have one senior that brings the weather with them EVERY YEAR. This poor girl had her session rescheduled 3 times. In fact, we were suppose to start in August. However, with the rain we had this year it was impossible to keep our dates. Sadly, the sunflowers didn't make her session. However, I don't think I would change one thing about our day together.
The wardrobe was changed to reflect the crisp fall weather and I think Julia did an excellent job selecting layers that really captured her style and photographed beautifully. I adore this girl's personality. She's very soft spoken but knows exactly what she wants. I think all young women should be so confident in knowing how to voice their opinions. She was an absolutely sweetheart and the day seemed very effortless.
After traveling around Galena we headed for the farm. We took a quick stop to visit some ponies on the side of the road and grab a few amazing forest portraits before heading down the road again. After a quick wardrobe change we made sure to capture the textures and buildings around the farm. I knew our light was almost to that perfect point so in the UTV we hopped and up we went. To say they have a nice view would put it mildly. It was breathtaking. The light, the girl, and the location was a win! The end of our day was so dreamlike. Absolutely perfect.
I want to thank Julia and her Mom for choosing me to capture her senior portrait experience. You're a wonderful family and I know that Julia will do amazing things. Enjoy!
